Habitare Talents + Habitare Protos
Habitare Talents + Habitare Protos Previously known as Protoshop and Talentshop, these are twin events annually curated and produced by Elina Aalto and Saara Renvall together with Habitare for the Habitare design fair. Habitare Protos, first seen in 2009 shows 10-12 new product ideas by designers working in Finland. Typically it presents insightful and clever prototypes from designers who are at the start of their careers. In it’s 13 years the event has shown work from over 150 designers and has established itself as an important arena for young Finnish design. Several designs first shown at Habitare Protos have found manufacturers in Finland and the Nordics. Habitare Talents, started in 2015 presents four designers that are at the start of their careers but who already have a an own designer identity and a strong body of original work. The selected designers are given an own stand at the fair to show their work more widely. Elina and Saara together with Krista Kosonen were awarded with the Young designer of the year award in 2010 for their work promoting 21st century Finnish design. https://habitare.messukeskus.com/messuilla/the-block/

SOIL MATTERS
Soil Matters exhibition explores the materiality of soil and how it is interwoven with human activity. The exhibition is part of the three-year Design Club Open Call series, in which impressive new curatorial content has been sought for Helsinki Design Museum’s Gallery. The exhibition architecture was designed by Aalto+Aalto. For us it was an easy-to-approach project as the materiality and the themes were something we could naturally relate to. We used big tile elements to divide and structure the space and also as a reference to the soil theme. The white colour and laboratory like elements reflect the research aspect of the exploring processes in the art works. The exhibition was curated by Maarit Mäkelä, ceramic artist and Doctor of Arts, and Riikka Latva-Somppi, curator and artist. Artists and groups in the exhibition: Tzuyu Chen (TW), Annelie Grimwade Olofsson (SE/DK), Özgü Gündeşlioğlu (TR), Catharina Kajander (FI), Riikka Latva-Somppi (FI), Maarit Mäkelä (FI), Pauliina Purhonen (FI), Erna Skúladóttir (IS), Unknown Fields Division (Liam Young & Kate Davies) (UK), Un/Making Studio (Åsa Ståhl & Kristina Lindström) (SE)

The first appearence of the new spatial elements was at the Habitare Furniture Fair in September 2019. The concept includes collapsible fair stands and furniture, personalized acoustic elements and the material scheme. The plan was to make a flexible collection that would be re-usable and would adjust into fair stands of different size. The forest like green acoustic elements were done in co-operation with Innofusor. The visuality reflects the quality craftmanship and materials behind the Genelec products, and the companies commitment to sustainability. The natural materials and colours create a warm and inviting atmoshere.

Fiskars Summer House
Fiskars Summer House exhibition in the Fiskars Village arranged by Helsinki Design Week brought us together building up one of the nine summer rooms. The Dining Rooms was done for iittala in co-operation with Sasha Huber, one of our favourite artists. “We set out to choose an artist who would mirror both our own and Iittala’s world, where profound thinking meets simple form. We decided to choose Sasha Huber, whose work we have always admired and who we’ve known for a long time even though we’ve never worked together. She has developed a technique where she creates images with an air-staple gun, producing visually beautiful pieces which have a strong message, often dealing with inequality, and amplified by the act of shooting them with a symbolic weapon. Quite quickly and intuitively we came up with the idea of a dinner table, where the table cloth would be stapled onto the table and Sasha will be making a new piece for the exhibition from this starting point.” https://www.fiskarssummerhouse.com
